Town Manager, Erica LaCroix

Greetings, and welcome to the Town of Winslow!

I come to you with 25 years of experience in public sector management. The bulk of my experience is in Public Works and Law Enforcement, and I have extensive experience in budgeting and project management.

I was raised here locally in Mt. Vernon and graduated from Maranacook in 1988. My parents are still here in Mt. Vernon and Smithfield.

I left Maine to attend school at Michigan State University (Go Green for any fellow Spartans out there!). I graduated in 1992 with a BS in Animal Science. If you're thinking that doesn't relate to my career at all...you're right!

My goal was to get into the Veterinary program at MSU, which turns out to be extremely difficult if you are not an in-state student. In 1995 I took what I thought was a temporary job with the City of Lansing. As it turned out I really liked the work and I developed a passion for public service.

I served in the Transportation and Parking office for 8 years; 2 as a principal clerk, 3 as the Operations Supervisor, and 2 as the Violations Bureau Manager. In 2002 I moved on to the Senior Administrator position with the Operations & Maintenance division in the Public Service Department (what you would call Public Works in most towns).

In 2010 I decided to formalize my skills by going back to school. I attended Norwich University in Vermont, primarily because they were the only university that offered a concentration in Public Works. I graduated with a Master's of Public Administration in 2011.

In 2013 I took a job with the Virginia Department of Transportation as a Budget Needs Analyst and moved the family to Richmond. VDOT is the third largest DOT in the country with a bi-annual budget of $7 billion. For the next two years I came up with ways to measure the operational needs for assets as large as moveable bridges and tunnels, signalized intersections and smart traffic technology, all the way down to pavement markings, signs and curb and gutter. Oh..and snow. I love snow!

Although the position at VDOT was interesting I found that I was too disconnected from the community. I really missed serving at the local level. In late 2014 I took a position as the Chief of Administration for the Chesterfield County Sheriff's Office. I worked for Sheriff Karl Leonard and his 300 deputies for three and a half years.

In 2018 my husband was relocated to the Atlanta area. I took a job with a local employee benefits vendor as his business office manager. While it was not in my field, it provided me with the flexibility I needed to assist my children who both have special needs in school. Ultimately the experience strengthened my knowledge of HR Law and health benefits for employees.

I joined the team here in Winslow in October of 2020. I moved here with my two kids, two dogs, two cats and a fish. The job has been challenging, especially during the time of COVID, but it has been rewarding as well. I am so excited to become a part of this community. I see great things in this Town's future, and I look forward to being a part of its growth.
