Inter-Library Loan Services

Inter-Library Loan Services

The purpose of inter-library loans is to obtain, upon request of a library user, material not available at the Winslow Public Library. With a few exceptions, this is a free service provided by the library to patrons in good standing.

The lending period for an inter-library loan is two weeks within the MILS library consortium, with a single 2- week renewal for all material types. The lending period for an inter-library loan from MaineCat is set to 4 weeks, with a 2- week renewal for print material and 1 week with a 1-week renewal for a/v materials. A fee of $.25 per day is charged for overdue interlibrary loan items.

If a patron requests items through interlibrary loan that cannot be obtained from a library on the Van delivery system, Patrons are responsible for any postage/fees associated with obtaining the items.

Patrons can borrow via Inter-library loan in two ways:

  • Requests for items from other libraries who share their catalogs with us can be made through the library catalog. Patrons can request available items by clicking the request button at catalog. You will need to enter your name and library barcode when requesting. Once the item has been delivered to the library, we will email or call you to pick-up your item(s)
  • Patrons may call the library and staff can search for a particular item in the catalog and request it through your library record.
  • For rarer items not held by library within MILs or MaineCat, we can work through the state library to find and borrow the items for which you are searching. However, there may be a shipping and or processing fees attached to items borrowed from resources. Please check with the librarian before deciding to request the item.
