How to Search the Catalog, Request and Renew Books

We are a member of MILS, the Maine Infonet Library System, sharing our catalog with other libraries in Maine.  As part of this state-wide library system our patrons can easily borrow books from over 90 libraries and have access to over 9 million titles.

  1. The catalog is set to search our Winslow Public Library catalog.  To search other MILS library catalogs choose VIEW ENTIRE COLLECTION  in the drop down menu that appears when you click on the box that shows  WINSLOW PUBLIC LIBRARY.  You can also choose  SEARCH MAINECAT  to access books in over 80 other libraries in Maine.  This option appears at the top of the screen after you type in a search term and hit  SUBMIT.
  2. You now need a 14-digit barcode to request items or to check your library account.  (Our old barcodes were much shorter.)  If your present library card number has three digits add 21978 followed by six zeroes to the front of your present number (i.e. if your library card shows the number 123 change the number to 21978000000123.)    If your present library card number has four digits add 21978 followed by five zeroes.
  3. To reserve an item in our collection or request an item from any library in MILS and MaineCat you must click on  REQUEST  at the top of the catalog record for the item you are interested in.   You will then be prompted to log in with your 14-digit barcode.  We will notify you when the item is available at our library.
  4. To check your library account to see what you have checked out, renew items, etc., click on  MY LIBRARY ACCOUNT  in the top right corner of the page.  You will be prompted to log in with your 14-digit barcode as above.

Please call or stop in if you have any questions.  We are happy to help!
